Simply search for "Pontem Wallet" in your preferred app store or browser extension marketplace and install it directly. Once installed, open the app to begin setting up your first account.

Creating Your First Wallet Account

When you launch Pontem Wallet for the first time, tap Get Started, then select Create Wallet. If you already have an existing wallet, choose Import Wallet using your Secret Recovery Phrase.

After creating your wallet, you'll immediately see a purple banner labeled: “Please save the recovery phrase.” Tap Save to proceed.

Why Your Recovery Phrase Matters

Your Secret Recovery Phrase (also known as a seed phrase) is the master key to your wallet. It allows you to restore access if you lose your device or switch to a new one. Never share it, and never store it digitally—write it down on paper and keep it in a secure location.

If you lose this phrase, there is no way to recover your account or funds. Pontem cannot assist in recovery.

The app will prompt you to verify your recovery phrase by selecting words in the correct order. This ensures you’ve recorded it accurately. You can also re-access it anytime under Settings.

Next, set a password to unlock your wallet on this device. Note: this password only secures local access—it does not protect your funds if someone gains access to your recovery phrase.

Optional: If you own an Aptos Names domain, link it in Settings so others can send funds using your human-readable name instead of your long wallet address.

Buying Cryptocurrency

To begin using the Aptos network, you’ll likely need some APT tokens or other cryptocurrencies. Tap the Buy button within the wallet interface to start.

Pontem integrates with trusted payment processors:

You may be required to complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification—this includes providing personal details like your name and address—to comply with financial regulations.

Your wallet address is automatically set as the recipient. After completing the purchase, your newly bought tokens will appear in your wallet balance within minutes.

Swapping Tokens with Liquidswap

Pontem Wallet includes Liquidswap, a decentralized exchange (DEX) built for the Aptos ecosystem. This lets you trade tokens directly from your wallet without leaving the app.

How to Swap Tokens

  1. Go to the Markets tab to view popular token pairs and price trends.
  2. Before swapping, register the token you want to receive by tapping Add Token on the homepage. A small gas fee in APT applies.
  3. Navigate to the Swap tab.
  4. Enter the amount you’d like to exchange.
  5. The wallet fetches real-time data on prices, slippage tolerance, and gas fees from Liquidswap.
  6. Review and confirm the transaction.

Transactions on Aptos are fast and low-cost thanks to its high throughput architecture. Within seconds to minutes, your new token balance will update on the dashboard.

Advanced users can explore bridging and staking options for passive income opportunities in DeFi.

To connect:

Many dApps support automatic login once connected. You can now interact with DeFi protocols, trade assets, stake tokens, and more.

Hardware wallet users can also connect Ledger devices for enhanced security—refer to official guides for setup steps.

Using EVM Networks in Pontem Wallet
